Shoes news in October

They say that nothing is as strange as the truth, and that seems to be the case even in the case of shoes! Here are just a few snippets of things going on that involve shoes and footwear.
- This is rather comical, but the company that’s backing it, Long Island “I Love My Shoes” already has a Press Release on its website and is committing to having the shoes in stores coast to coast by Mother’s Day. Dina Lohan is mother to train wreck starlet Lindsay Lohan, and she is launching her own shoe line, called Shoe-han. Lindsay’s attempt at fashion designer failed miserably, and the polls on Mama Lohan’s shoe foray seem to indicate people are completely over the antics of the crazy Lohan family. Time will tell.
- During a powerful storm that killed at least 300 people and caused more than a quarter of a million to leave their homes, employees of the Marikina Shoe Museum were on a rescue mission. Their mission: to save Imelda’s shoes! More than 800 pairs were donated to this museum in Marikina city, which is home base to the Philippine shoe trade. Braving water levels up to their knees, loyal shoe museum employees quickly moved Imelda’s fancy footwear to higher ground, and only 100 got wet, but are in still in good shape.
- Spring fashion shows in Paris this week debuted 12 inch platformed and bead-encrusted women’s shoes. Which begs all the questions I learned in high school journalism classes: Who would wear such a thing? What on earth is wrong with our society? When did people all take leave of their senses? Where would these shoes be appropriate? How could you possibly wear them without risking broken bones? Why would anyone do this to women? (As if pantyhose wasn’t bad enough.)
- High-end plastic shoes. Just as it looked like the Crocs craze was winding down, plastic shoes seem to have made the jump from discount stores to high-end boutiques. Designer brands like Yves St. Laurent, See by Chloe, Givenchy, Vivienne Westwood, and Lacoste have all jumped onto the bandwagon, which seems in full swing! (Crocs even has new winter shoes available with furry linings.)
- Britney Spears is now the face of Candies, taking over where Hilary Duff was unable to tread, literally. Hilary was Candies spokesperson for a number of years, and sales remained lackluster. Candies as now put their faith in Britney’s star power to bring them a new legion of young girls, and recreate their late 70’s success when their stiletto heeled slide was all the rage. It remains to be seen whether Britney’s very public meltdowns will hinder her work for Candies. The Candies photographers, makeup artists, and designers did a great job with her photo sessions for the website. They toned her harsh look down quite a bit, and actually even make her look somewhat innocent. So much so that you have to really look hard to see that it is really Britney!
- Chanel is pushing high heeled clogs? At the 2010 Spring Show in Paris on Tuesday, the models wore country inspired looks and high heeled clogs, complete with the wooden look heels, rivets, and studs.
Amazing some of the things that go on in the shoe business, but that is the week’s roundup of news and nonsense!
